Here is an eminently sane and sensible response to the ‘debate’ on the number of cameras in Britain from Paul Lewis in The Guardian. Not much more to say really other than I strongly suspect that he reads this blog!
Actually, equally sane if rather ruder, is Charlie Brooker, also in The Guardian. He argues as bitterly as usual, that the attitude of the Labour government to its information relationship with its citizens represents nothing but contempt. I strongly suspect he may be right.

Paul Lewis is the journalist who has shown interest in the surveillance studies network/ESRC seminar series, and was down to attend the Durham event but didn’t make it. I had a very interesting conversation with him last year as he was thinking of attempting to drive from one end of the UK to another without interacting with surveillance technology. After spending a long time talking about it we realised it was an almost impossible task! I have no idea whether he did it or not, but the conversation was an interesting exercise at least.
That’s right… I am pretty sure that I’ve talked to him a few times too.
